What is Cardology, Really?

OK, so picture this.

You’re at a party — or a coffee shop, or a dinner table — and someone pulls out a regular deck of playing cards. Not to play a game. Not to do a magic trick. But because they genuinely believe those 52 cards contain a map of who you are, why your life looks the way it does, and what you’re really here to do.

You think: that’s a stretch.

And then they tell you what your birth card is, and your jaw drops a little, because — how does a card know that about you?

That’s the moment I fell in love with Cardology. And it’s the moment I want for you, too.

Let me tell you what Cardology actually is. Not the textbook version. The real one. The one I’d tell you over coffee if you leaned across the table and said, “Ashley — what is this thing you keep talking about?”

It starts with a deck of cards you already have.

Here’s something that might blow your mind: that ordinary deck of playing cards sitting in your kitchen junk drawer? It’s not ordinary at all.

The deck of 52 playing cards is an ancient wisdom system. It wasn’t invented for Go Fish. It was created to map the energetic patterns of the Universe — the same patterns that move through everything, including you.

Think about it for a second. There are 52 cards. There are 52 weeks in a year. There are 4 suits. There are 4 seasons. Add up the numeric value of every card in the deck (with the Joker counting as 1) and you get 365 — the number of days in a year. This is not a coincidence. This is a system.

Someone, a very long time ago, encoded the rhythm of time and life into something we’ve been carrying around in our back pockets ever since.

Cardology is the study of that system — and how to use it to understand yourself and your life.

So what does it actually tell you?

Here’s where it gets personal.

Every single day of the year is associated with a specific playing card. The day you were born on is called your Birth Card — and it’s your entry point into the whole system.

Your Birth Card isn’t just a personality type or a fun fact. It’s more like… a soul fingerprint. It reveals:

  • The core of who you are — your gifts, your tendencies, your deepest nature
  • The challenges you’ve been bumping into your whole life (and why they keep showing up)
  • The kind of relationships that light you up — and the ones that drain you
  • The energy that’s available to you in any given year
  • Your soul’s deeper purpose in this lifetime

And here’s the thing that always gets people: it’s not vague. It’s not the kind of “you’re sensitive and you love deeply” stuff that could apply to anyone. It’s specific. Almost uncomfortably so.

When I found out my birth card — the 6♣ — was known as the psychic card, and that 6 of Clubs people have a deep responsibility to truth and to showing the way for others… everything that had felt confusing about me suddenly made sense.

That’s what Cardology does. It gives you language for things you’ve always felt but never quite had the words for.

How is this different from Tarot?

I get this question all the time, and I love it because the answer reveals something important about what makes Cardology unique.

Tarot is a divination tool. You ask a question, draw cards, and interpret what they’re reflecting back to you in that moment. It’s powerful, it’s intuitive, and it shifts every time you sit down with it.

Cardology is more like Astrology. It’s based on your birthday — a fixed point in time — and it describes the energetic blueprint you were born with. It doesn’t change depending on what you had for breakfast or how you’re feeling. It’s your map. It’s always your map.

In fact, Cardology weaves together numerology AND astrology — every card carries a number (which has its own energetic meaning) and a suit (which aligns with an element), and your spread of cards is laid out according to planetary positions. It’s a complete system.

You don’t have to choose between Cardology and Tarot or Astrology. Most people who love one, love all three. They’re just different lenses for looking at the same truth.

The four suits — and why they matter so much

One of the most immediately useful things about Cardology is the suits. There are four, and each one corresponds to an element and an area of human experience:

Hearts = Water = Emotions  The heart, feelings, intuition, love, relationships. If you’re a Hearts card, you move through life through what you feel.

Clubs = Air = Knowledge  The mind, ideas, communication, learning, truth. Clubs people live in a world of thoughts, words, and endless curiosity.

Diamonds = Fire = Building  Action, creation, value, manifestation. Diamonds people are here to build things — businesses, families, structures, futures.

Spades = Earth = Wisdom  Experience, depth, transformation, knowing. Spades carry the oldest energy in the deck — hard-won wisdom from a life fully lived.

Read that list and notice where you felt a little flutter of recognition. That’s not nothing.

Most people know which suit they belong to before they even check their birth card. Because we’ve always known, on some level, who we are. Cardology just hands you the language.

But it goes deeper than personality

I want to be clear about something, because I think this is what separates Cardology from a personality quiz.

Your Birth Card is not a category you fit into. It’s an energy you’re working with. There’s a difference.

Around your Birth Card is an entire spread of cards — your Life Path Spread. Each card in that spread sits in a planetary position (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn…) and each one has something specific to say about a different area of your life.

Your Mercury card speaks to how your mind works and how you communicate. Your Venus card reveals what you love and how you attract. Your Saturn card shows where your biggest life lessons live. Your Pluto card… well, that one’s the card of deep transformation. The one that’s been doing the heavy work in the background of your life whether you knew it or not.

And then there’s your Yearly Forecast — a completely new spread of cards that activates on your birthday each year, giving you a personal energetic roadmap for the 12 months ahead.

This is why I call it a life-long tool. You don’t learn Cardology once and move on. You grow with it. It meets you wherever you are.

How I found it — and why I’ve never looked back

I came to Cardology the long way around.

I’d always felt things deeply — too deeply, I was told. I was overly sensitive, seeing things others couldn’t see, knowing things before they happened. It created a lot of anxiety. A lot of feeling like I didn’t belong anywhere or fit neatly into any box.

I studied Tarot. I studied astrology. I studied numerology. Each one gave me pieces, but I kept feeling like there was something more — some system that would show me not just what was happening, but who I actually was at my core.

When I found the 6♣ as my birth card and read what it meant, I sat there quietly for a long time. Because there it was. Every confusing piece of me, reflected back in a single card.

Once I knew who I was at my core, everything else started to open up. The right people came in. The right opportunities appeared. The anxiety got quieter. Not because life got easier — but because I finally had a map.

That’s what I want for you. That’s why I do this work.

So… is this for you?

Let me ask you a few questions and you can answer them honestly, just for yourself:

  • Have you ever felt like you were meant for more, but couldn’t quite name what that was?
  • Do you find yourself drawn to the same kinds of patterns — in relationships, in work, in how life unfolds — and wonder why?
  • Is there a part of you that already knows things, feels things, understands things that you can’t quite explain to other people?
  • Are you ready to stop guessing at who you are and start living from a place of genuine knowing?

If any of those landed for you — even quietly, even a little — then yes, this is for you.

Cardology doesn’t create who you are. It reveals what was always there. And once you see it, you can’t unsee it — in the best possible way.

2026 – 10 of Hearts Year

In the world of Cardology, the year 2026 is a 10♥ year.

group of people you love/success with creative groups

Because each card has a life path spread, when a year is a card, the energy of the year is seen through the life path spread of the card. The Life path spread has 16 cards, so I won’t go through all 16. I’ll focus on the planets that are significant right now.

2026 is a 1 year numerologically and we just entered  a Fire Horse year in Chinese astrology.

Just that is a lot of bold, active, courageous energy.

The 10♥ is also  fiery and holds masculine, expansive, grandiose, bold, active energy.

10 cards represent success.

They are about a ‘lot of’ the suit…in this case a lot of heart, emotion, and groups of people who support and love each other.

The 10♥ is about community, our tribe, our heart family.
And after some years of feeling disconnected and divided, we now have the energy of family, community and being with those who support us.
Hearts also represent creativity, so this card also brings in an abundance of creativity.

Since the big planetary players for 2026 will be Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, that is what I’m focusing on in this post.

The Saturn card for the 10♥ is the Q♦.

What this reveals for 2026, is that the challenges and possible obstacles will be centered around discernment with our values and how we are contributing to our community or tribe.

Since the 10♥ is about our community, that Q♦ as the challenging (what we need to work on) energy lets us know that we are being asked to be more responsible with and to take time to focus on our community.

The Q♦ gives freely to her community, either through charity, acts of service, leadership or nurturing. Queens are the feminine aspect of leadership. And this Queen helps to build, support and nurture her community.

  • What are you wanting in your relationships and community?
  • Do you feel part of a community?
  • What would you like to cultivate within your community?
  • What do you need from your community?

The Queen gives freely, knowing she will receive what she needs in return. She knows that her giving doesn’t deplete her, it adds to her. But she is wise in her giving, discerning about how it will best serve the whole. And making sure it is part of her higher values.

Now we come to Uranus. In April Uranus is moving into Gemini.

This is where we’ll experience big leaps and changes.

The Uranus card for the 10♥ is the 5♥.
Uranus reveals the area of progress, changes, movement out of status quo and our authenticity verses community.

Meaning, how can I be authentically me and still belong and partake in my community?
The 5♥ is about emotional freedom. Making changes in how you feel, and where your heart is.

  • Where have you been feeling restless to make a change within your relationships?
  • Where have you felt trapped?
  • Or where have you been acting with overly-dutiful, taking-on-all-the-responsibility in some relationship because you think if you don’t, you won’t be loved or accepted?

A big part of this time now is to be willing to let go of the perceptions that run your heart. The ideas and beliefs that make you feel how you do about life, about how others behave, about how things will go.
All of our “This is how it has to be” for me to be ok and comfortable – those have to be questioned now.

Where or how are any restrictive emotions blocking you from what you’d like to build or launch?

And by restrictive emotions, I’m referring to a limited or suppressed display of emotions.

Tycer and I watched the new season of Alone recently and one participant kept talking about how he felt it was best to teach his son to ignore his feelings. That if he was sad or felt hurt, he needed to ignore that and move on. By the time he had to go home, he had changed his mind about that, realizing that his time alone forced him to be with his emotions, to fully feel and allow them. That it made him better, not weak.

Ask yourself:

  • Have I been ignoring any emotions out of fear of looking at what they are telling me?
  • Do I have trapped desires I need to release to be allowed to grow?
  • Am I feeling trapped and unable to have what I truly want?
  • Am I overly controlling something I want to happen?

For me, one of the biggest things for this year around the 5♥ is that we are being asked to be OK with NOT knowing. Five cards are the energy of venturing out into the unknown, being willing to make a leap.

We are being asked to question our opinions and NOT have to always have an answer. To allow our inner knowing to guide us and help us make the changes we need to make.

Lastly, the Neptune card, which is the 3♣.
Neptune is our spiritual space, our spiritual ideals and visions, which we are assisted with through our sacred practices.

The 3♣ is the card of mental creativity, creative ideas and taking our creativity and adding in discipline, structure and taking action on them, so they aren’t just overwhelming ideas swirling around in our heads, but tangible creations that better our lives.

With Neptune in Aries, we have the energy of dissolving the ego and taking action on our spiritual ideals, to embody and BE the divine being that we are.

For many years, with Neptune in Pisces, we were mesmerized by false glamour, illusions of what was beauty, easily confused by narratives of how we should look, talk, act and be. Things were very hidden and we were deceived easily. The Entertainment industry is ruled by Neptune – and now we are seeing behind the veil of deception. That what was seen as creativity and imagination was not always just to entertain us, but to brainwash us AND to openly show us the plan to bypass the karma of their actions.

With Neptune ruling our imaginations and creativity, AND being the sacred, we now have the oportunity to use it differently.

  • How can your creative ideas assist you in this?
  • Can you see your creative inspiration and ideas as divine and place them in a sacred space to be held as important?
  • That the manifestation of your creativity IS your divine power and purpose?
(Neptune is  our imaginations and the Arts, so I keep seeing an image of a new kind of art and view of creativity that connects us to Spirit in a new way.)
  • Have you been inspired in a new way?

While this is only a snippet of the cards for 2026, I hope it will create an opportunity for you to use the energy of the year, along with your personal forecast cards. We have this tool to help us navigate whatever presents itself.

YOU are in control – not anything outside of you!

Planetary Days vs. Your Personal Planetary Day

Did you know that via Cardology, you have a specific planet that rules each day of the week? Whatever day you were born on is your Mercury day. If you were born on a Sunday, that is the start of your week, and Sunday is your Mercury day, making Monday your Venus day, Wednesday would be your Jupiter day, and so on, with your week ending on your Neptune day.

As well, in Astrology, each day is ruled by a specific planet.

Sunday is the Sun

Monday is the Moon.

Tuesday is Mars.

Wednesday is Mercury.

Thursday is Jupiter.

Friday is Venus.

Saturday is Saturn.

As part of  working with astrological energies, we can plan or activate the planetary energy of the day in our daily routines to match and resonate with it.

But what if the ancient pairing of a day of the week to a planet doesn’t match your personal planetary day with your cards?

This post will clarify that and give you some ideas of how you can work with what might feel like contradicting or opposing daily energies! You don’t have to choose one over the other.

First off, if you don’t know what day you were born on, you can go here, https://www.timeanddate.com/date/weekday.html put in your birthday and it will tell you what day you were born on.
In Cardology, the day you were born is always your Mercury day. It is the day that starts your personal week. If you were born on a Monday, your personal week goes from Monday to Sunday.  (Did you know that you have a weekly forecast as well as your personal daily card?)

Cardology doesn’t have a ‘Sun’ or ‘Moon’ day like Astrology and Astrology doesn’t have a Uranus or Neptune day like Cardology.

If using the planetary days of the week is something that interests you, how can you honor both your personal planet of the day and the astrological planet of the day?

First, a list of the Astrological planetary days and what the energetic focus is:

-Sunday is the Sun and focuses on your vitality – what energizes you? What makes you feel seen and focuses on YOU.

-Monday is the Moon day and focuses on you emotional needs and nurturing yourself. It’s a great day to check in on your emotional state and what is needed in that area.

-Tuesday is Mar’s day and focuses on action, activity, moving your body, creating and releasing heat and asks you about your courage and assertion.

-Wednesday is Mercury’s day and focuses on communicating, talking, learning and writing/sharing! Fast-paced and subject to sudden changes.

-Thursday is Jupiter’s day and focuses on optimism, going big, taking a risk and doing things that take you to higher levels – of thinking, of living and of your faith.
Jupiter also loves to travel!

-Friday is Venus’s day and focuses on beauty, art, love, relationships, feeling good about yourself and life!

-Saturday is Saturn’s day and focuses on responsibilities (chores?!?) structure, systems and even solitude.

Notice there isn’t a Uranus or Neptune day?

Yet, with your personal planetary day via Cardology, you have a Uranus and Neptune day – but not a Sun or Moon day.

Can you honor both your personal planetary days and the astrological days?

We’ve had numerous conversations on this topic in our Empowering You zoom gatherings.

For 2025, I’m finding myself wanting to be more in tune with nature, and my own personal rhythms and cycles, so I revisited this topic.

Below is a simple chart you can use to know the basic planetary energies for each of the planets, on the day they were assigned through astrology:

The energy of the Planet and ways to work with it is in the middle column. I kept it short, but you can be creative with how you use the energy.
The last column is where you can put in your personal planet via Cardology for each day of the week.
Now you can utilize both and create things, experiences, activities or space to honor the natural energy of your days. (A pdf of the chart to download)

Astrology Days Energy to Use Your Cardology Day
Sunday – Sun

Sunday is for you, to help you feel energized, give you vitality and to shine a light on you, your inner child, and to use sunshine!
Whatever planet is on your Sunday, use its energy to help revitalize you.

Monday – Moon

Focuses on your emotional needs and nurturing yourself. It’s a great day to check in on your emotional state, what you need to nurture yourself or connect with your intuition.

Tuesday – Mars

Focuses on action, activity, moving your body, creating and releasing heat and asks you about your courage and assertion. Mars can be about sports, competition and even sex!

Wednesday – Mercury

Focus is on communicating, talking, learning, reading, writing/sharing! Fast-paced and subject to sudden changes.

Thursday – Jupiter

Focuses on optimism, going big, taking a risk and doing things that take you to higher levels – of thinking, of living and of your faith.
Jupiter also loves to travel!

Friday – Venus

Focuses on beauty, art, love, relationships, your material possessions (what you want to have) feeling good about yourself and life!

Saturday – Saturn

Focuses on responsibilities (chores?!?) structure, systems, routines and even solitude.

Uranus (there is no astrological Uranus day, but you have a Personal Uranus day in Cardology)

Uranus focuses on disruptions, getting out of status quo, shaking up your routine, being a part of a community, being authentically you, progressive and innovative and weird!

Neptune (there is no astrological Neptune day, but you have a Personal Neptune day in Cardology)

Neptune focuses on the spiritual world, dreams, imagination, escapism – to nourish yourself through Neptune, use entertainment that opens your imagination and your connection to the unseen world of Spirit.

If the energies are contradictory, establish your rules of what you prefer NOT to do on your personal planetary day(s) that conflicts with the day.
You might not be able to tell your boss that on Mondays, you can only daydream and take care of your emotional needs (If Mondays are your Neptune day), but you can establish a routine of taking a bubble bath on Monday evenings or taking the time to write in your dream journal and taking note of what your psyche is telling you about your emotional needs.

We all have our day to day stuff that is part of our job, our family or schedules we can’t control, but we can still use the energy of the day and our personal planets energy to create something to honor that and our natural rhythm.

Honoring Our Transitioned Ancestors Through Our Spiritual Path Spread

At this time of the year, many of us set aside time to honor our transitioned ancestors in a variety of ways and Cardology can be a beautiful tool to assist it!

Ancestors who were alive in our younger years who have since transitioned are still part of the energetic influence we have at play in our lives now.

I believe they are part of our SPS (Spiritual Path Spread – I’ll be using SPS in this post to refer to the Spiritual Path spread) energy now – because we can’t view the SPS as just a past/linear concept.

Here is my approach to this time and rituals of honoring my ancestors:

You will probably notice many of your relatives in your Life Path spread. (Or you are in theirs.)

My Grandfather and a cousin are my Pluto card.
But something else you can look at – especially at this time of the year when honoring ancestors — is anyone who has transitioned might now be in your SPS.

(Did you know you have a Spiritual path spread just like you have a Life Path spread?)

If we step away from viewing the SPS in a linear, past sense, anyone’s Birth card that is in your SPS is an energy influencing you in your life now and that can include those who have passed (whether they passed hundreds of years ago, or sometime during your current life.)

My Grandfather, no longer on this plane, is a 9♣, and while here on this plane, was not a part of my Life Path spread. However, in my SPS, the 9♣ is my Mars card.

Use the Spiritual Path spread chart here in this image to see what cards are in yours. Find your Birth card, then move to the left of it to find your SPS Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn, Uranus…etc.)

At this time of the year when I honor deceased ancestors, I take note of those whose Birth cards are in my SPS.

They are now an energetic influence in my life, maybe in a way that is very different than what they were when alive on this plane.
When I honor my Grandfather, I also honor my 9♣ in Mars. I look at the high side of that card and give thanks for its presence in my life, knowing that if I need it for anything (just like needing him for anything), it is there for me.

This recognition and honoring give this influence my energy.

Rituals produce energy. And gratitude is powerful. It sets up positive conditions for us.
For my 9♣ Grandfather, I honor him with the things of Mars – with fire, red stones and pictures of the greyhound dog as he was a Greyhound bus driver and the greyhound symbolizes loyalty and undying faith – another quality of the 9♣.

As well, I recognize anything I am grateful for or need from that 9♣ energy, such as taking action on being disciplined in my relationships and for higher knowledge and to look at my beliefs and determine if they are positive or negative and knowing when to let the negative ones go.

My two aunts and Grandmother were K♣. That is my Neptune card in my SPS.
I look at the high side of Neptune – which is to connect us to our Divine/Higher Self and the high side of the K♣ is to think at a higher level, enabling breaking outside my status quo so I can evolve, make progress and develop a better life. And to expand consciousness through leadership.

In honoring them and the high side of these cards, I feel I am also emphasizing the energy of them that WAS the high side and allowing it to heal family wounds.

If you do any ancestry work at this time, adding in the cards of your SPS that was the birth card of your relative can be a special and healing addition to your rituals, celebration or acknowledgment!

The Big Story for 2021 – Saturn and Uranus – What Are Your Saturn and Uranus Cards Trying To Tell You?

If you follow astrology, you know that the big players for 2021 are Saturn and Uranus. They’re in a fight ring, one in each corner and we are watching this grand show play out. It’s a battle of change vs. the status quo.

I won’t go into all the astrological details; you can google it and many articles come up about it – like this one over at Big Sky Astrology: https://www.bigskyastrology.com/saturn-square-uranus-retrofitting/

The point of this post is to focus on the Saturn and Uranus cards of your personal Path spread.

Just like you have a Saturn and Uranus sign and house in your Natal chart, you have your Saturn and Uranus card(s).

Our Saturn card shows us where in life and in what way we’ll feel restrictions, limitations and have to really work at something in order to hone it.

Saturn – as much as it might hurt and create our challenges – is what helps us better ourselves in regard to how disciplined and responsible we are. It can be the work (sometimes career) we end up doing in our life.

I always think of it as the stern P.E teacher that made us run the sand hills in Arizona where I grew up. Dang, that wasn’t fun! But it sure made us stronger.

Saturn brings structure and boundaries to our life. It can be the controlling, authoritarian energy we feel – keeping us in line – and it likes tradition, rules, and hard work.

Uranus, on the other hand is quite the opposite! It breaks the rules, seeks freedom, shakes things up and is rebellious. It starts revolutions and refuses to play by the rules.

Your Uranus card shows where and how in your life you’ll break the rules, be rebellious and it is the gift that helps you break free of the status quo that is keeping you from moving forward.

So, back to this 2021 battle in the sky of Saturn and Uranus-

Freedom vs. Restriction

Tradition vs. New Ways

Uranus shouts “I don’t want to anymore!”

Saturn walks in and says, “You better behave, now go to your room!”

We are feeling and watching this play out globally.

Mask, no mask.

Vaccine, no vaccine.

Traditional ways of making money, new ways of making money (or money not being the only motivating factor in our lives!)

The list goes on and somewhere in your personal life, you are feeling this tug, this battle between the old way and the new way.

So, how about a check in with your cards?

Pull up two chairs and invite your Saturn card and your Uranus card to have a seat.

They are facing each other. They both have something to say and they both have their position and what they are giving and doing for you.

But it might feel in conflict right now.

I’m a 6♣ and my Saturn card is the K♠ – holy schmoly! Yep, that K♠ is definitely the big daddy-o, King of Kings, can-be-a-bully-needs-to-master-and-be-responsible.

When he walked in and sat down in the chair, my plants stood at attention and my two dogs huddled in the corner.

My Uranus card is the 3♥ – when she walked in, she was dressed in bohemian paisley, with bright pink hair, dried paint still on her face and a joint propped on her ear.

Can you hear the conversation?

“What do you think you’re doing young lady?” asks the King.

“None of your effin biznaass old man…”

By now the dogs are trying to get out the door and I’m holding my breath.

I continue to watch and listen as they go back and forth…

And I know where this is playing out in my life. I’ve asked my wise council friends for help to sort this stuff out.

It’s even played out in regards to my actual father, as our Saturn card can reveal that energy in our lives.

The thing is, they both have their gifts for you.

Right now, it’s not about one winning over the other, its about showing you where that polarization or conflict is in your life.

— Where can I up expressing my creative, heartfelt desires (3♥) and be responsible, dedicated and a leader with it? (K♠)

–How can my rebellious nature break open some out-dated tradition that has served it’s time and is over in my life?

If these two cards kept talking, what conclusion would come about?

–Am I taking sides with one over the other?

–Am I gaining wisdom from both?

–Is one scared of the other?

–Are you being pulled to step out of your comfort zone in some area, but you’re afraid you don’t have what it takes to go there?

Your Saturn card actually gives you the strength to do it – are you letting that happen?

I challenge you to dress them up and play out this scenario.

Give your Saturn card life, make it a character that reveals this part of you.

Give your Uranus card a life and see what it looks like, what it needs and what it is helping you with.

Let them talk, or fight, or dance or whatever your particular cards would do and hear them out.

And I’d love to know what you learn about yourself!

Leave a comment and share! Or ask about your Saturn and Uranus card,  or hop over to my Facebook page and let’s discuss!
